Severe grief is often brought on by the death of a loved one. It is a common human emotion, but it is transitory in most people. However, some find it difficult to overcome grief allowing it to become a constant companion. These people will constantly experience feelings of devastation and isolation to the point where it interferes with their relationships and their ability to function. It can even affect physical health and lead to thoughts of suicide.
Grief disorder can be difficult to overcome, but it is not impossible. The staff at AMS work hard to diagnose grief disorder and come up with a customized treatment that may include medication, therapy, and holistic methods. In time, we find that our patients begin to show signs of healing giving them the strength they need to move forward with their lives.
Group therapy can be effective in the treatment of behavioral and mental disorders, substance abuse issues, marital issues and more. Not only does it give a patient an opportunity to communicate and express themselves, but it also lets them know they are not alone. It provides a support group for the individuals involved. It provides an outlet for socialization and a forum for different views to be introduced. All this is valuable in helping patients to learn, grow and increase their own self-awareness.
