Psychotic disorders are severe mental disorders that can cause abnormal thinking and perception. Two common symptoms of psychotic disorders include delusions and hallucinations. Schizophrenia is a common psychotic disorder and symptoms of psychosis can also manifest in those with bipolar disorder. Common treatments include medication and talk therapy.
In cases of psychotic disorder, we believe it is important to analyze each patient to determine the best course of treatment. We sit down with our patients and their families to try and understand the cause of the disorder and treat it at its root. Then, we follow through to see how the treatment is affecting the patient doing all we can to improve functionality and quality of life.
Group therapy can be effective in the treatment of behavioral and mental disorders, substance abuse issues, marital issues and more. Not only does it give a patient an opportunity to communicate and express themselves, but it also lets them know they are not alone. It provides a support group for the individuals involved. It provides an outlet for socialization and a forum for different views to be introduced. All this is valuable in helping patients to learn, grow and increase their own self-awareness.
