Trauma disorders occur in response to witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event like violence, abuse, neglect, or loss. There are several types of traumatic stress disorders that can occur including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Childhood Trauma Disorders, Adjustment Disorders and more. Common symptoms are nightmares, difficulty concentrating, a lack of positive emotions, and feelings of disassociation to name a few.
Trauma disorders can be debilitating, but they are treatable using methods like trauma focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and medication. At AMS, we take a look at our options to choose one that is best suited for our patients. Then we further customize to come up with a course of action that will help them to overcome their trauma and enjoy a higher quality of life.
Group therapy can be effective in the treatment of behavioral and mental disorders, substance abuse issues, marital issues and more. Not only does it give a patient an opportunity to communicate and express themselves, but it also lets them know they are not alone. It provides a support group for the individuals involved. It provides an outlet for socialization and a forum for different views to be introduced. All this is valuable in helping patients to learn, grow and increase their own self-awareness.
