For those struggling with symptoms of depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and still searching for a treatment that works, NeuroStar transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy may renew your hope for restored wellness. This non-invasive, drug-free treatment is an empowering way for candidates to improve mental health, especially after failing to see results with traditional treatments, such as antidepressants and talk therapy.

At AMS Health & Wellness, our committed team can help you understand what to expect from this advanced treatment, including what makes a good candidate for NeuroStar TMS Therapy in Sugar Land, and if it is the right next step for your mental wellness.

What Conditions Does NeuroStar TMS Therapy Treat?

NeuroStar is the #1 physician-recommended TMS system nationwide and is clinically proven to reduce symptoms of certain mental health conditions. The FDA has cleared TMS therapy to manage the following:

  • Treatment-resistant depression
  • Depression with comorbid anxiety
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (age 22 and up)
  • Major depressive disorder (MDD) (age 15 and up)

TMS therapy helps clients with a variety of mental health conditions to regain focus, energy, and emotional balance. It is typically most effective for those who have not had success with standard medication treatments. If you are in Sugar Land and seeking solutions for one or more of these conditions, our team could help you determine if you are a suitable candidate for NeuroStar TMS.

Insurance Coverage Eligibility

Sugar Land candidates for NeuroStar TMS therapy often have questions about cost and coverage. Due to its high success rate and long-term cost-effectiveness, most major insurance companies cover NeuroStar TMS, including:

  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • Medicare/Tricare
  • United Healthcare
  • BlueCross BlueShield

This widespread coverage demonstrates the confidence insurance providers have in NeuroStar’s ability to offer meaningful symptom reduction, and it makes this advanced treatment accessible to many local clients. There may be certain coverage requirements, and we recommend that you verify your plan’s coverage before beginning sessions.

Are You a Suitable Candidate?

TMS therapy is an empowering way for many people to regain a sense of emotional well-being. Ideal candidates will be adults or adolescents in good overall health seeking to regain emotional balance and improve well-being. Because TMS therapy works using magnetic pulses, if you have certain implantable devices, you may be ineligible for treatment. These devices include pacemakers, cochlear implants, and aneurysm clips.

People typically consider this advanced treatment after medication has failed, whether due to ineffectiveness or intolerable side effects. While antidepressants are a great option for some, they do not work for about one in three people. Good candidates in Sugar Land for TMS treatment should have tried at least two different types of antidepressants without success, as this can also often be a requirement for insurance coverage.

The best way to determine if you are a candidate for TMS therapy is by scheduling an initial consultation with our team. Our compassionate provider, Dr. Arif Shoab, could meet with you to discuss your medical and psychiatric history, current mental health needs, and goals for treatment. We could then assess whether you are a candidate for NeuroStar TMS and develop an individualized treatment plan to address your symptoms.
