Watching your teen struggle with depression is one of the hardest and scariest things you can experience as a parent. It is difficult to know how to help in a way that truly makes a difference. As a parent, you want to support them, but you may also feel like you have limited options remaining.

If other approaches have not worked or were off-putting, your teen might respond well to TMS for adolescent depression in Katy. This alternative treatment is FDA-cleared as an adjunct treatment to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in teens aged 15 and older. At AMS Health & Wellness, our team listens to and supports both you and your teen in a calm and welcoming space and creates a personalized treatment plan if they are a candidate for NeuroStar TMS therapy.

The Benefits of NeuroStar TMS for Teens

One of the biggest benefits of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is that it does not involve medication. Medications often come with common side effects or may not provide sufficient relief. As a parent, you may also feel reluctant to introduce antidepressants at such a young age. NeuroStar TMS offers a different path by working directly with the brain’s activity in a targeted and controlled way. Changes in brain function influence depression, and treatments that help regulate those patterns can improve symptoms over time.

NeuroStar TMS is also non-invasive, which means there is no surgery and no need for anesthesia. Your teen remains awake and comfortable during each session. Most treatment plans take place weekdays over seven weeks. This consistency helps build gradual and lasting changes in mood and emotional balance.

At AMS Health & Wellness, NeuroStar TMS therapy for teenagers in Katy who are suffering from depression is part of a well-rounded approach to care. We support them through therapy and open conversations and take the time to understand what they are going through. This method helps connect heart and mind, which is an important part of long-term healing.

How Can You Explain NeuroStar TMS to Your Teen?

You can easily explain NeuroStar TMS to your teen by keeping the conversation simple and relatable. You might describe it as a treatment that helps the brain get back into a healthier rhythm, much like how physical therapy helps the body recover after an injury.

During sessions, we place a small device on your teenager’s head. That device then sends magnetic pulses to specific areas of the brain. These pulses work to stimulate nerve cells that regulate mood. You can reassure your teen that they will be awake the whole time, and most people describe the feeling as a light tapping sensation.

You can also help ease anxieties by letting your teen know that they will be an active part of the process. We only carry out TMS sessions on Katy teens experiencing depression if we have their input and consent. They can share how they feel, ask questions, and work alongside their care team. When teens feel included and respected, they are often more open to trying something new.
